Stay Hydrated!
For the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic, face masks have been an important part in helping to reduce the spread of the disease. However, something we are noticing is that wearing the masks has caused people to drink water less frequently, resulting in not being properly hydrated as often.
Additionally, as we move into Summer, rising temperatures and outdoor activities require you to drink more water in order to stay hydrated. What many people don’t think of is how proper hydration (or lack thereof) affects dental health.
Lack of hydration can lead to dry mouth. As we mentioned in a previous blog post, saliva helps cleanse your mouth, removing particles and that cause bacteria and bad odors. Having improper saliva production allows bacteria to thrive, which can cause several oral health issues such as:
- Bad Breath & Halitosis
- Gum Disease
- Tooth Decay
- Certain mouth infections, such as thrush
Fortunately, the solution to preventing these issues is easy! Be more conscious of your hydration, and consciously drink plenty of water throughout the day. That way, your saliva production remains healthy.
