Types of Sedation Dentistry – Solutions For Dental Anxiety
Do you have a fear of visiting the dentist for procedures? You’re most certainly not alone. We know that visits to the dentist are never an exciting event, and can sometimes even be a stressful ordeal – this is why we offer Sedation Dentistry here at Wuzbach Parkway Family Dental.
Types of Sedation
There are several different methods of sedation that can be employed to ensure the most comfortable, pleasant experience possible that would be best suited for you. The most common being nitrous oxide, more commonly known as “laughing gas”. This is a very safe and painless method provided at most offices. While it won’t put you to sleep, it will help effectively reduce any anxieties about the procedure.
There is also enteral sedation which comes in the form of a pill or a liquid that is taken orally. It can sometimes be used in combination with nitrous oxide and eliminate any nervousness about the procedure.
Another common method is Intravaneous (IV) sedation, where the sedative is injected directly into the veins. This allows for deeper sedation and while you will still be awake but less aware of the procedure. Be aware that this will require some recovery time after the procedure has concluded.
Finally, the last method of sedation is General Anesthesia, which will put you to sleep for the entire procedure. Thorough recovery time in office will most likely be required afterward.
