How Does Cerec Technology Work?

With Cerec technology, we are able to scan your teeth with a specialized device, allowing the doctor to custom design your crown digitally. The doctor uses a wand-like tool that captures a 3-D image of your teeth. Which is exactly why there are no gross, messy impressions needed! The 3-D image is uploaded to the state-of-the-art Cerec machine, allowing the doctor to make changes to the tooth digitally. Think of the software as an advanced 3-D version of Adobe Photoshop, allowing your doctor to edit the shape of the tooth and even color match it to the rest of your smile. I bet you didn’t know that your dentist is actually 3-D digital artists!
Digital Designs to Custom Crowns
Now it’s time for the real dental magic! The patient’s custom crown design is sent to our in-house state-of-the-art Cerec machine, called a Milling Unit. This machine meticulously shapes your crown based off of the doctor’s digital design, with more precision and detail than ever before. The best thing about Cerec technology is the time it takes from start to finish. Depending on the complexity, the Cerec machine can produce a finished crown in about ten minutes. This means the several week process of getting a new custom crown can be done in just one day. Cerec’s ground-breaking technology offers patients a time-efficient and reliable treatment without impressions, extra visits or temporary crowns.
